About this role
Client Profile
Hastings People has partnered with an established full-service hotel in the Pacific Islands to recruit an experienced Hotel General Manager.
This is a substantial hotel operation incorporating 80 rooms and four food and beverage outlets, catering to a mix of leisure, corporate and local markets.
The business is seeking a highly visible and hands-on General Manager who can become the face of the hotel, build strong relationships within the local community and lead the continued development of its people, product and commercial performance.
Job Description
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Hotel General Manager will take overall responsibility for the operational and financial performance of the property.
Leading department heads across rooms, food and beverage, housekeeping, maintenance, sales and support functions, you will create clear expectations around service, commercial performance and accountability while developing the capability of the local team.
This is not a desk-based General Manager position. You will be highly visible throughout the hotel, engaging with guests, supporting your management team and stepping into the operation when required.
Commercially, you will own the P&L and take responsibility for budgeting, forecasting, revenue management, labour, capex and departmental profitability. You will work closely with the sales team to grow market share while continuing to improve rooms and food and beverage performance.
A particularly important part of the role will be developing local talent. You will identify future leaders, coach department heads and create an environment where employees with varying levels of formal hospitality training can develop successful careers.
The position also plays an important role within the local tourism and business community, requiring the General Manager to build effective relationships with government, corporate, tourism and community stakeholders. These commercial and community responsibilities form part of the existing position scope.
Candidate Profile
You will be an experienced Hotel General Manager or senior Hotel Manager, Resort Manager or Executive Assistant Manager ready to take the next step in your career.
A strong rooms background is highly regarded, alongside genuine P&L responsibility and experience leading a complex, full-service hotel or resort environment.
Previous experience living and working within the Pacific Islands is highly desirable. Experience in Vanuatu, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Samoa, New Caledonia or French Polynesia would be particularly relevant.
Importantly, you will understand how to work respectfully within local and customary community structures and will have demonstrated experience developing local employees and emerging leaders.
You will be commercially astute, approachable and comfortable working hands-on within the operation. Previous casino experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
The existing position specification calls for senior hotel management experience, multi-department leadership, strong financial knowledge and people-development capability, with Pacific or Melanesian experience specifically identified as advantageous.
Offer
This is a permanent international appointment offering significant operational autonomy and the opportunity to make a genuine impact on an established Pacific Island hotel.
An attractive expatriate package is provided, including accommodation assistance, two economy return flights annually to your port of origin, six weeks' paid leave, meals while working and all relevant tools of trade.
The preferred commencement is prior to Christmas.
