What you'll do

  • Support various legal claims, disputes, requests, and litigation-related matters.
  • Manage Small Claims actions in Québec from start to finish, with full ownership of assigned matters, including reviewing claims, drafting defences and other legal documents, and attending mediations and trials.
  • Liaise with external counsel on Superior Court matters in Québec.
  • Work with the Toronto litigation team to manage Small Claims actions nationwide from start to finish, with ownership of assigned matters.
  • Review and respond to disclosure requests, including motions, originating applications, court orders, judgments, and subpoenas.
  • Provide consultation and direction on issues relating to legal and procedural compliance.
  • Proofread and check legal documents, correspondence, and other communications for accuracy, clarity, and completeness.
  • Conduct legal research and summarize relevant findings for the legal team.
  • Assist counsel with responding to Human Rights complaints.
  • Monitor and track the legal mailbox, as required.
  • Ensure documents are uploaded in Legal Document Management System (DMS) and emails are uploaded in Legal Outlook Mailbox for each matter
  • Update litigation reports

  • Experience working in a Québec legal environment is required.
  • Strong knowledge of the Civil Code of Québec, the Code of Civil Procedure, and other applicable Québec legislation, including privacy and access-to-information requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of legal terminology, litigation processes, and court procedures.
  • Strong legal drafting, proofreading, and document review skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and procedural compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, and rapidly changing environment, with or without direct authority.
  • Ability to network across departments and build solid working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Sound analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills, with the ability to understand broad and complex legal issues.

Working in a fast-paced, collegial atmosphere, the Law Clerk will be an integral member of the legal team and will work closely with members of the regulatory, customer service, and other cross-functional departments. This role will provide key support on legal claims, disputes, disclosure requests, and litigation matters, with a particular focus on Québec Small Claims matters and related legal processes.

What You Will Be Doing
