How you make a difference

The Physician is responsible for assessing and treating patients’ physical health including conducting exams and coordinating outside referrals.  The role includes oversight of clinical care activities provided by ARNPs, documentation, and after-hours on-call responsibilities.  This position performs minor procedures and collaborates with psychiatric and interdisciplinary staff to ensure integrated care.  Physicians also educate patients and families, ensure compliance with safety procedures, and tailor treatment plans to the patient's age and development.  Travel may be required depending on facility needs, and work is primarily in correctional or clinical settings.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess patients’ physical health through examinations and diagnostic procedures

• Provide and oversee documentation, outside referrals, consultations, and follow-ups

• Offer clinical oversight and support to ARNPs, including care provision and documentation review

• Perform minor medical procedures such as sutures, IV placement, and lumbar puncture

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary staff and provide education to patients and families

Additional Details

We are looking to to bring on a physician for weekend OPHU coverage hours are typically 0800-1630 Physician for OPHU @ Alameda • Patients that need more critical care • Most are people coming out of hospital. They will need to be cleared here before going back to general population. • Avg about 12 or less – rotates throughout the day. • Have their own RN assisting. • Very slow-paced position – rounds 2x during shift – most of time monitoring and charting or assisting Trauma room. • Trauma room is right next door – may assist NP/PA in that area if needed and sometimes to assist with determining send-outs. **Must be onsite for 8-hr shift**

Qualifications & Requirements

EDUCATION

• Medical doctorate (MD) or doctor of osteopathy (DO) from an accredited university

EXPERIENCE

• Two (2) years post-residency clinical experience in an outpatient/inpatient setting

• Psychiatric experience preferred

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

• Licensed in the state of employment

• Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and applicable certifications

• Board certified or eligible in internal or family medicine
