Mission

The Path is a research lab and consumer health company on a mission to provide therapy-grade help for anyone, anytime.

Over 3 billion people a year have a problem large enough to warrant therapy but the barriers to access - around price, time, geography, stigma, and language - are so large that less than 10% of these people are getting the help they need.

The Path exists because help shouldn’t depend on privilege, because intelligence should serve humanity, and because clarity is the first act of care.

As a member of The Path, you will have an opportunity to build a generational company that aims to have more positive impact on the world than any other company in human history.

Who You Are

Serve as a full-stack Product Designer who owns the end-to-end design of features, including user research, ideation, prioritization, and high-fidelity mocks. Solve business and user goals with design thinking and user empathy at the center. Bring a high quality bar to everything, working with Engineering to make the final product look outstanding. Move at startup speed, establishing a brand and driving product growth at The Path.

Outcomes

  • Mobile App Launch: Design a beautiful new mobile app from scratch, launching the flagship The Path Therapy product with beautiful visuals, intuitive interactions, and an innovative UX. Bring user empathy and strong visual communication to bear on every problem.

  • Mobile App Launch: Design a beautiful new mobile app from scratch, launching the flagship The Path Therapy product with beautiful visuals, intuitive interactions, and an innovative UX. Bring user empathy and strong visual communication to bear on every problem.

  • Design System: Build a comprehensive design system from scratch, incorporating the new The Path brand (colors, typography, grid, core components). Be thoughtful about future-proofing the design system with things like internationalization & accessibility, while also making it composable and implementable.

  • Own Quality: In a high-trust environment without dedicated QA, take full responsibility for design integrity, lifting the quality bar across the company. Quality definitely includes the visuals, animations and “wow” factor of the look and feel. But quality is mostly about solving users’ problems and driving growth.

  • Feature Implementation: Deliver designs for 10+ major features per quarter. Be collaborative and strategic in making key roadmap prioritization decisions, and helping scope the implementation with engineers.

  • User Research: Periodically talk to our users (active and churned), and form deep hypotheses about the underlying patterns in what they need. Do this 3-6 times per year, speaking with 10+ users in a batch and presenting findings to the team. Then use those insights to help prioritize our roadmap and create novel solutions to those users’ problems.

  • AI-First: Leverage AI design tools to accelerate ideation, while ensuring final outputs are polished, human-centered, and free of AI slop that could undermine The Path’s brand. Also, think deeply about the future of Human-AI interactions, bringing your novel ideas to life inside the The Path Therapy product.

Competencies

  • Design Expertise: Expert in Figma for building full design mocks end-to-end. This includes all aspects of product design: UX, strong use of imagery, typography, iconography, and animation. Nice-to-have would be also strong in making marketing designs that fit the brand but are better for top-of-funnel and grabbing attention.

  • Experienced: Portfolio shows exceptional visual communication and design thinking, for prominent mobile consumer products in the market touching millions of customers. Is able to draw on that expertise to make The Path’s product an A+.

  • Quality Focus: Track record upholding standards in lean teams, delivering exceptional designs and partnering with Eng to polish implementation (without QA oversight).

  • Fast & Scrappy: History shipping high-volume work, hitting deadlines, getting a lot done without needing to just outsource things to external resources. You are resourceful, and thrive under pressure.

  • Strategic: You help us understand what NOT to build, not just what to build. This is grounded in your experience and understanding the product problems very deeply.

  • Innovative: Understands where the puck is going in terms of AI trends, and is able to know what’s possible with the technology today vs in the future. Can then use this insight to deliver designs that can be implemented now, but that also avoid the cookie-cutter approach to AI-driven interfaces, and that fully leverage the power of the tech we have.

Logistics

  • San Francisco, hybrid (Tue–Thu in office). Not remote. Full-time.
