What you'll do

  • The Regional RF Engineer Lead is responsible for the analysis, design, implementation, optimization and enhancement of wireless telecommunications networks.
  • Overseeing RF engineering daily activities across multiple field teams.
  • Link budgets analysis, system dimensioning for coverage and capacity including traffic analysis, initial system design and dimensioning, coverage planning, site identification, evaluation and zoning support, frequency planning, interference analysis and optimization.
  • Oversee and guide the work of other engineers on the team, manage the day-to-day operations of the projects, and interface with Project Managers, management as well as the customer.
  • Answer technical questions as well as day to day operational questions.
  • Plan and execute their own work and provide guidance and/or training to others.
  • Adapt to changes in a dynamic business environment, drive management initiatives, and engage the team as a technical lead.
  • Exercise judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions and results.
  • Act as an advisor to other team members to meet schedules and resolve technical problems.
  • Present ideas, technical and non-technical, in a logical, compelling manner in a written format and verbally in both small and large group settings.
  • Carry out optimization techniques (proper antenna selection for optimal horizontal/vertical performance, mechanical/electrical tilting, appropriate transmit power setting, antenna clearance, neighbor list analysis, etc.) for optimal site/cluster performance.
  • Identify RF capacity and coverage issues in the network and initiate projects such as cell splits, sector-adds, carrier adds, site modifications and small cells to address them.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering; MS Degree a plus.
  • 8+ years’ work experience in the wireless industry preferred.
  • Successful track record defining direction and providing specific instruction for engineering projects/programs leveraging personal knowledge and organizational skills to increase team efficiency, facilitate personal development and mentor colleagues.
  • Demonstrated research and problem-solving skills via prior work experience.
  • A solid understanding of RF fundamentals and data network protocols.
  • Strong technical knowledge of CDMA/EVDO, 5G and LTE/Volte technologies.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of at least two of the common industry propagation tools (Planet, Tornado, Wizard, Odyssey, dB Planner, etc.) for model calibration, drive test data post-processing, map generation, frequency planning and interference matrix analysis, site database maintenance, etc.
  • Experience with parameter optimization, testing, drive-data and peg count analysis is required.
  • Must have a strong work ethic, integrity and work extremely well in a team environment.
  • Must have an aptitude for creativity and innovation.
  • Programming knowledge and experience a plus: Python, Excel Macros, Alteryx.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Base Station Vendor equipment (Samsung, Alcatel Lucent, Ericsson)

Nice to have

  • DAS and In Building experience a plus
  • Experience with wireless infrastructure provider and/or operator is desired

Role and Responsibilities

The Regional RF Engineer Lead is responsible for the analysis, design, implementation, optimization and enhancement of wireless telecommunications networks. This position will be responsible for overseeing RF engineering daily activities across multiple field teams. 

Responsibilities include link budgets analysis, system dimensioning for coverage and capacity including traffic analysis, initial system design and dimensioning, coverage planning, site identification, evaluation and zoning support, frequency planning, interference analysis and optimization.

The individual will typically oversee and guide the work of other engineers on the team, manage the day-to-day operations of the projects, and interface with Project Managers, management as well as the customer.

The RF Engineer Lead / SME will answer technical questions as well as day to day operational questions. They are able to work independently with limited guidance to accomplish goals and objectives. They plan and execute their own work and provide guidance and/or training to others.

They adapt to changes in a dynamic business environment, drive management initiatives, and engage the team as a technical lead. They exercise judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions and results. They act as an advisor to other team members to meet schedules and resolve technical problems.

They are able to present ideas, technical and non-technical, in a logical, compelling manner in a written format and verbally in both small and large group settings and complete other relevant tasks that may be assigned from time to time, as needed.

  • Carry out optimization techniques (proper antenna selection for optimal horizontal/vertical performance, mechanical/electrical tilting, appropriate transmit power setting, antenna clearance, neighbor list analysis, etc.) for optimal site/cluster performance.

  • Identify RF capacity and coverage issues in the network and initiate projects such as cell splits, sector-adds, carrier adds, site modifications and small cells to address them.

  • Creating search areas within their geographic area of responsibility.

  • Working with various Site Development teams on the acquisition of new cell sites and modification of existing sites.

  • Communicate RF team budget, milestones and deliverables to project management and implement plans to accomplish the milestones within budget, as required.

  • Maintain headcount over multiple field offices, & shift to manage workload.

Skills and Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
