nNow we're expanding our Data & AI organisation and building the SOFICO AI Cloud, the platform underpinning the Miles Enterprise Agentic Platform.
nFrom our office in Ghent, we're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to help build the distributed workflow platform connecting our enterprise software with the next generation of AI-powered capabilities.
nYou'll solve a particularly interesting engineering challenge: how do you make complex, long-running business processes continue reliably when services fail, networks go down or individual steps need to be retried?
nYou'll use technologies such as Temporal, Java/Quarkus and Python to make these processes reliable, observable and scalable.

What you'll do...

- Build reliable distributed workflows that coordinate business-critical processes across Miles and the SOFICO AI Cloud. n
- Design systems that remain reliable when things go wrong, using techniques such as retries, idempotency, failure recovery and compensating actions. n
- Develop integrations between our workflow platform, Java/Quarkus services, AI components and enterprise systems. n
- Build strong testing, monitoring and observability around long-running business processes. n
- Help shape the engineering standards and architecture of a new platform at the intersection of backend engineering, distributed systems and Agentic AI. n
What you bring...
n- n
- Strong professional experience in backend software engineering, ideally with Java or another modern backend language. n
- Experience building distributed, asynchronous or event-driven systems in production. n
- A good understanding of how to design reliable systems around failures, retries, state and transactions. n
- Experience with microservices, APIs and automated testing. n
- Experience or genuine interest in AI-assisted software engineering: at SOFICO, we actively encourage engineers to bring AI tools (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) into every step of the product and software development lifecycle, from specification and planning through implementation and testing, and you should be eager to grow that practice with us n

- Experience with Temporal, Camunda, Conductor, Azure Durable Functions or another workflow/orchestration technology. n
- Experience with Java/Quarkus, Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar event-driven technologies. n
- Experience with AI platforms, LangGraph, cloud platforms or enterprise/on-premise environments. n
