What you'll do

  • Develop, maintain, and manage project budgets, cost plans, and control frameworks.
  • Establish project cost baselines and monitor performance against approved budgets.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) in accordance with project scope, execution strategy, and contractual requirements.
  • Develop and maintain the Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS) to support accurate budgeting, cost collection, tracking, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Lead and coordinate the project Change Management and Change Control processes from identification through approval and implementation.
  • Assess the cost and financial impact of proposed changes, trends, and potential change orders.
  • Monitor project expenditures, commitments, accruals, and actual costs against approved budgets and control accounts.
  • Monitor project performance using Earned Value Management (EVM) metrics, including Cost Performance Index (CPI) and Schedule Performance Index (SPI).
  • Analyze cost variances, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc cost reports and project performance dashboards.
  • Develop and maintain Estimate at Completion (EAC), Estimate to Complete (ETC), and cash flow forecasts.
  • Present project financial status and forecasts during project review meetings

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of progressive experience in Cost Control and Project Controls
  • Experience supporting large-scale capital projects within Energy, Oil & Gas, Mining, Infrastructure, Utilities, Manufacturing, Construction, or Industrial sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-million and/or billion-dollar project budgets and forecasts.

Nice to have

  • Professional certifications such as PMP, CCP (Certified Cost Professional), PSP (Planning & Scheduling Professional), or equivalent are considered an asset.

Who are you?

  • You are an expert Senior Cost Controller with a minimum of 10+ years post-graduate experience looking for the next step or are currently undertaking a similar role in a similar environment.

Job Description

  • The Senior Cost Controller is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing project cost control processes to ensure projects are delivered within approved budgets and financial objectives. This role provides leadership in budgeting, forecasting, cost monitoring, change management, reporting, and financial analysis while supporting project teams and senior management with accurate and timely financial information.
  • The position plays a critical role in the Project Controls function by developing and maintaining the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS), cost control systems, performance reporting, and change management processes. The Senior Cost Controller ensures alignment between scope, schedule, cost, risk, and contractual requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

 

Key Responsibilities

Qualifications

Education
