About this role

Electrical Primary Engineer - Energy

What you’ll do

As an Electrical Primary Engineer in our Energy team based in Perth, you’ll contribute to projects and programs that make a real difference and be part of a team that embraces challenges, welcomes diverse ideas, and engineer solutions with people and outcomes in mind.  

  • Deliver high-voltage substation primary designs up to 330kV, including layouts, general arrangements, and key electrical diagrams

  • Specify and select primary plant equipment, including transformers, switchgear, instrument transformers, surge arresters, and busbar systems

  • Perform engineering studies and calculations across areas such as earthing, insulation coordination, lightning protection, and conductor design

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop safe, reliable, and constructable solutions for utility, mining, and infrastructure clients

  • Lead technical reviews, support design approvals, and provide engineering input through construction, testing, and commissioning phases

  • Apply Western Power, Australian Standards, and relevant industry requirements to deliver compliant and high-quality outcomes

What you’ll bring

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering and experience delivering HV substation primary design projects within Australia

  • Proven capability in substation design, equipment specification, and engineering calculations for transmission and distribution networks

  • Experience working to Western Power requirements and/or delivering projects for utility, mining, or industrial network operators

  • Strong technical communication skills, with the ability to prepare design reports, specifications, and client-facing documentation

  • A collaborative approach and ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary project teams

  • Experience managing competing priorities while delivering quality outcomes for clients and stakeholders
