We are currently looking for a highly motivated Senior Engineer Advanced Technology (M/F/D) to join our Advanced Technology team in Meiningen.

Principle duties and essential functions

The Engineer Advanced Technology (PhD track) is an expert who will be assigned to advanced technology projects to enable cutting edge results considering research and product aspects. The PhD track will focus on evolution of system design and network control aspects, investigating disruptive solutions incorporating self-organizing behavior in next-generation network operation and management. The work will involve a mix of theoretical model development, and implementation and benchmarking on real network data.

Typical tasks will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Understand optical communication system and networking tradeoffs, and propose machine learning approaches to cater complex dependencies

• Model development, and generalizations across various network layers

• Apply importance sampling and feature engineering approaches for reduced complexity architectures

• Integrate the end-to-end framework into Adtran’s network design and management solution using interface programming and model definitions Other responsibilities include

• Cooperation with national and international project partners

• Internal subproject lead for research and development projects

• Due diligence/analysis of 3-rd party and supplier solutions

Knowledge, skills and experience required

• Diploma/Master degree in Electrical Engineering, IT, Physics or related area

• Experience in Big data technologies (Hadoop, Scala, Spark, etc.), together with modern machine learning frameworks

• Experience in Interface and web programming – SDN and NFV incorporation

• Experience in: network layers, applied statistics, information theory, algorithm design and development, optical communications, etc.

• Good programming skills (Java, R, Python, etc.) and data structures

• Excellent presentation and communication skills

• Innovative, highly motivated personality

• Fluent in English
