About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the team, technical direction, architectural evolution, and operational excellence of Atlassian's foundational data platform.

Our platform powers the data behind critical experiences across the company—from rich in-product analytics in Jira, JSM, and Confluence, to dedicated solutions like Atlassian Analytics, the Teamwork Graph (TWG), and AI-native capabilities like Rovo. In this high-leverage, cross-organizational role, you and your team's decisions will directly shape how hundreds of thousands of organizations explore, understand, and act on their data.

Responsibilities:

• Lead, grow and retain a high-performing team of engineers building and operating Atlassian's data platform (streaming ingestion on Flink and/or MPP query/serving on StarRocks).

• Own the technical direction, architecture and roadmap for your area, partnering with senior ICs on the largest and most complex problems from design to launch.

• Drive operational excellence for high-scale data platform systems in production—reliability, SLOs, on-call, performance, cost and data quality/observability.

• Deliver platform capabilities that are consumed by other teams and products across Atlassian.

• Partner across engineering teams to take on company-wide initiatives spanning multiple projects and organizations.

• Hire, coach and develop engineers; set clear expectations, give meaningful feedback, and grow the next generation of technical leaders.

• Set the standard for engineering quality—thorough code reviews, sound architecture, and strong documentation.

• Manage delivery: planning, prioritisation, execution and stakeholder communication across a full-lifecycle platform team.

• 10+ years in software engineering with 4+ years managing engineering teams (managing senior ICs and/or managers preferred at M60).

• Must have led teams building/operating data platform systems in streaming/ingestion (Flink, or Spark as an alternative) and/or MPP query engines (StarRocks, or alternatives such as Trino / Apache Pinot / Apache Doris).

• Proven track record of operational management of high-scale data platform systems in production — reliability, performance, cost and data-quality/observability.

• Strong technical depth in distributed systems. kubernetes and large-scale data infrastructure (GCP/AWS).

• Proven people leadership: hiring, growing, coaching and retaining senior engineers.
