Senior Environmental Health Officer - Private Sector Housing

Location: East Sussex - Hybrid
Contract: 9 months
Rate: £50.00 per hour Umbrella
On-site: 2 days per week

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Health Officer to join a Local Authority in East Sussex on a 9-month contract.

Working within the Private Sector Housing Team, you will manage and support a team delivering a range of environmental health and housing enforcement duties, helping to maintain and improve property conditions across the private rented sector.

Key Responsibilities
·Manage, support and monitor the performance of staff within the team.
·Act as a technical expert on Private Sector Housing and Environmental Health legislation.
·Undertake investigations, property inspections, surveys and assessments in response to complaints and proactive programmes of work.
·Determine and undertake appropriate enforcement action, including the preparation and service of statutory notices.
·Prepare cases for prosecution, appeals and tribunals, including taking statements and compiling evidence.
·Act as an expert witness where required.
·Lead specific projects and support the development and mentoring of professional and technical staff.
·Liaise with residents, elected members, internal departments and external agencies.
·Deputise for the Private Sector Housing Manager when required.

About You
You will be an experienced Environmental Health professional with a strong background in Private Sector Housing within a Local Authority. You will have sound knowledge of relevant housing legislation and enforcement procedures, alongside experience of managing or supervising staff.
