About this role

Senior Logistics Executive – Inventory Controller – Roles & Responsibilities

1. Inventory Control & Accuracy

  • Manage and maintain high levels of physical versus system inventory accuracy.
  • Monitor inventory movements including receipts, dispatches, stock transfers, returns, damages and adjustments.
  • Ensure proper reconciliation between physical stock and SAP/ERP system stock.
  • Investigate inventory discrepancies and identify root causes.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions to minimise recurring stock variances.

2. Physical Inventory & Cycle Counting

  • Plan, coordinate and execute periodic physical inventory and cycle counting activities.
  • Conduct daily/weekly/monthly cycle counts based on inventory value, movement and business requirements.
  • Coordinate wall-to-wall stock verification and annual physical inventory.
  • Review count results and ensure timely closure of inventory differences.
  • Ensure approved inventory adjustments are accurately posted in the system.
SAP supports cycle counting, periodic physical inventory and continuous inventory procedures to compare physical stock with system records and reconcile differences.

3. SAP / WMS / ERP Inventory Management

  • Manage inventory-related transactions and controls in SAP/WMS/ERP systems.
  • Ensure accurate recording of GRN, goods issues, stock transfers, returns and other inventory movements.
  • Monitor system stock, storage locations and bin-level inventory.
  • Identify system posting errors and coordinate with relevant teams for correction.
  • Maintain data integrity between physical warehouse operations and ERP systems.

4. Inventory Reconciliation

  • Perform regular reconciliation of physical stock with system/book stock.
  • Analyse stock shortages, excesses, damages, blocked stock and unexplained variances.
  • Prepare variance reports and obtain required approvals for inventory adjustments.
  • Track open reconciliation issues until complete closure.
  • Maintain proper documentation and audit trails for all adjustments.

5. Inventory Analysis

  • Conduct ABC, FSN and inventory ageing analysis to identify critical, fast-moving, slow-moving and non-moving inventory.
  • Monitor inventory turnover and stock ageing.
  • Identify excess and obsolete inventory and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Analyse stock movement trends and highlight inventory risks to management.
  • Support inventory optimisation and reduction of unnecessary working capital.
Current inventory-control roles specifically include FSN analysis, ageing analysis, inventory turnover and recommendations for excess/slow-moving stock.

6. Inventory Planning & Availability

  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure adequate stock availability for business requirements.
  • Monitor minimum/maximum stock levels, safety stock and reorder requirements where applicable.
  • Identify potential stock-outs and excess inventory situations.
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain, Procurement, Sales and Warehouse teams for inventory planning.
  • Support business continuity by ensuring critical materials are available when required.

7. Warehouse Inventory Operations

  • Coordinate closely with Warehouse and Operations teams to ensure proper inventory handling.
  • Ensure correct storage, bin allocation, SKU identification and material segregation.
  • Monitor FIFO/FEFO compliance wherever applicable.
  • Ensure proper handling and identification of damaged, rejected, blocked and returned inventory.
  • Monitor warehouse housekeeping and inventory control practices.

8. Stock Movement & Transaction Control

  • Monitor all inventory movements between warehouses, locations and storage areas.
  • Verify stock transfer transactions against physical movement.
  • Ensure timely system posting of all material movements.
  • Prevent unauthorised stock movements and inventory adjustments.
  • Monitor transaction ageing and ensure pending transactions are closed within defined timelines.

9. Audit & Compliance

  • Ensure inventory processes comply with company SOPs, internal controls and audit requirements.
  • Coordinate internal, customer and statutory inventory audits.
  • Maintain supporting documents for physical counts, reconciliations and adjustments.
  • Implement corrective actions arising from inventory and process audits.
  • Ensure inventory records remain accurate and audit-ready.

10. MIS & Management Reporting

  • Prepare daily, weekly and monthly inventory MIS reports.
  • Report inventory accuracy, stock variance, ageing, FSN, stock value and inventory movement.
  • Prepare dashboards and KPI reports for management review.
  • Highlight major inventory risks, discrepancies and ageing stock.
  • Provide actionable recommendations based on inventory analysis.
SAP also provides inventory analytics for stock value, warehouse throughput, overdue materials, stock differences and inventory accuracy KPIs.

11. Team Management & Coordination

  • Supervise and guide inventory control executives, warehouse staff and counting teams.
  • Allocate inventory counting and reconciliation activities.
  • Train team members on inventory procedures, SAP/WMS transactions and SOPs.
  • Coordinate with Warehouse, Finance, Supply Chain, Sales and IT teams.
  • Ensure timely resolution of cross-functional inventory issues.

12. Cost & Working Capital Control

  • Support reduction of excess, obsolete and non-moving inventory.
  • Monitor inventory carrying costs and stock utilisation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve inventory turnover.
  • Reduce inventory losses arising from damages, shortages, incorrect postings and process gaps.
  • Support management initiatives for working-capital optimisation.

13. Process Improvement

  • Identify gaps in inventory control processes and implement improvements.
  • Develop and strengthen inventory control SOPs.
  • Introduce better counting, reconciliation and reporting practices.
  • Use data analysis to identify recurring inventory issues.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve inventory accuracy and operational efficiency.

Overall Accountability

Responsible for end-to-end inventory control and accuracy, including SAP/WMS inventory management, physical inventory, cycle counting, stock reconciliation, inventory analysis, ageing/FSN analysis, stock movement control, audit compliance, MIS reporting and continuous improvement, while ensuring optimum inventory availability and minimising stock discrepancies, excess and obsolete inventory.
