Job Purpose:  

The Social Media Specialist (GTA) plays a key role in supporting the Social Media Manager to drive the content calendar, execute digital priorities, and create timely, engaging content that connects audiences to our work and impact. 


This role combines creativity, storytelling, and digital expertise, with a strong focus on trend-responsive content, social-first photo and video production, and on-the-ground coverage of events and activities across the GTA. The Specialist also contributes to data-informed content planning and ensures a consistent, high-quality, and brand-aligned presence across all our social media platforms. 


The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and creative thinker with a sharp eye for detail, a proactive approach to content creation, and the ability to turn ideas, moments, and stories into compelling digital experiences. 


Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 


  • Trend Monitoring & Creative Adaptation 
    • Monitor emerging social media trends, formats, and platform updates on a daily basis. 
    • Develop rapid‑turnaround content concepts based on relevant trends that align with Islamic Relief's brand voice and campaign goals. 
    • Test new formats and creative approaches with the Social Media team. 
    • Maintain weekly trend summaries to guide content planning. 

  • Event & Staff Content Production  
    • Capture high‑quality in‑office, staff, and event‑based content. 
    • Film and photograph staff, visitors, and community engagements. 
    • Support content coverage across GTA and other regions as needed. 
    • Edit and produce reels, TikToks, carousels, and short‑form videos. 
    • Coordinate with internal teams to plan content needs for events and campaigns. 
    • Maintain an organized library of photo/video assets. 

  • Data Reporting & Performance Insights  
    • Compile weekly analytics dashboards and support the Social Media Manager with monthly reporting. 
    • Track audience growth, engagement patterns, and content performance. 
    • Use Hootsuite to pull platform‑specific metrics, compare week‑over‑week changes, and identify performance trends. 
    • Analyze reach, impressions, retention, watch‑time, click‑through rates, and follower behaviors to inform content decisions. 
    • Identify high‑performing posts and recommend adjustments to improve results. 
    • Maintain organized reporting systems for long‑term trend analysis. 

Qualifications: 

  • Completion of a three- to four-year post-secondary college or university program, with a degree or diploma in Digital Marketing, Communications, Media Studies, Graphic Design, or related field. 

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes: 

  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, concise, brand‑aligned copy for captions, comments, and storytelling posts. 
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and respond to public inquiries professionally. 
  • Exceptional creative eye and attention to detail, ensuring high‑quality content capture, editing, and visual consistency across platforms. 
  • Proficiency in Canva and CapCut; Adobe Creative Cloud. 
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends, and best practices. 
  • Ability to adapt trends into brand‑appropriate content that aligns with Islamic Relief's tone and messaging. 
  • Advanced Hootsuite and data competency. 
  • Strong organizational skills for managing content libraries, reporting systems, and deadlines. 
  • Ability to work in fast‑paced environments and capture content in dynamic event settings. 
  • Ability to manage sensitive communication situations and escalate when needed. 
  • Ability to support cross‑departmental requests and ensure smooth delivery of content needs. 

Other Requirements: 

  • Ability to work out of office hours, including evenings or weekends during events. 
  • Comfort with on‑the‑ground content capture, including physical movement and outdoor environments. 

Hybrid Work Policy: 

This position follows a hybrid model and is expected to be in our Burlington head office a minimum of one day per week.

Starting Salary:

$59,760.00
