What you'll do
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of complex control systems, including PLC programming (Rockwell, Siemens, etc.), HMI/SCADA development, and industrial networking.
- Develop and execute automation strategies to enhance manufacturing processes, reduce cycle times, and minimize operational costs.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues related to control systems, robotic cells, and automated machinery on the production floor.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., manufacturing, maintenance, quality, IT) to define project requirements, integrate new technologies, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Oversee the specification, procurement, and installation of new automation equipment and control components.
- Develop and maintain detailed documentation for control systems, including electrical schematics, PLC programs, HMI screens, and operational manuals.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, industry regulations, and company policies in all automation projects.
- Participate in root cause analysis for production downtime and implement preventative measures.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices in industrial automation and controls.

- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in industrial controls and automation engineering within a manufacturing environment, preferably in automotive or heavy industry.
- Expert-level proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Rockwell Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal) and HMI/SCADA development (e.g., Ignition, FactoryTalk View).
- Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP).
- Demonstrated experience with robotic systems integration (e.g., Fanuc, ABB, Kuka) and vision systems.
- Proficiency in electrical design and schematic interpretation (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).
- Experience with servo and motion control systems.
- Proven ability to lead projects from concept through commissioning and support.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with industry safety standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA 79).
