Beca’s Power business operates as a truly combined Asia Pacific business, with teams based in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Indonesia. Working collaboratively, our teams are passionate about renewable energy and the delivery of critical energy projects working across the full project lifecycle from scoping, detailed design through to procurement and construction support. Together they deliver large, complex energy and renewable projects across Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution, and HV Power services to key utilities, energy developers, major contractors for the commercial, industrial and infrastructure sectors. 

The Opportunity 

We're looking for a Team Leader - Primary Engineering to lead and grow our Melbourne based team of talented engineers. This is a fantastic opportunity to combine people leadership with technical delivery, supporting a close-knit team of engineers working across transmission, distribution and substation projects throughout Australia and New Zealand. 

This role would suit an experienced Primary Engineer with previous people leadership experience, or someone who is ready to take the next step as a Team Leader. 

You'll play a key role in leading and developing an already strong and highly engaged team, fostering a positive, collaborative and high-performing culture while contributing your technical expertise to the delivery of complex power infrastructure projects. 

You will: 

• Lead, mentor and coach the next generation of power engineers, helping them to undertake packages of work and supporting their career development 

• Foster a positive, connected and collaborative team culture where people feel engaged, supported and motivated to do their best work  

• Complete concept and detailed designs for High Voltage (HV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) transmission and distribution projects using the latest in digital design technologies 

• Solve complex engineering challenges across site constraints, client requirements, equipment specifications, earthing, cabling and safety standards  

• Build strong relationships with clients, project teams and stakeholders across the business  

• Support work winning, resource planning and the ongoing growth, career development and success of the primary engineering team 

 
Our design and project roles are busy, with multiple work projects, differing client deadlines and changing timeframes. Your ability to work across multiple workstreams managing your time and deliverables will be important, as will being able to adapt to changing project deliverables and timeframes. Updating stakeholders early and often will be a key mantra that you work by, especially for those ‘hard conversations’ where project timelines are at risk of not being met.

About You 

You're an experienced Primary Engineer who enjoys bringing people together, developing talent and building on the success of an already strong and highly engaged team. You lead by example, communicate openly and are passionate about helping others grow and succeed. 

Previous people leadership experience would be highly regarded. However, we're equally interested in individuals who demonstrate strong leadership potential, a positive attitude and a genuine desire to coach, support and develop others. 

You bring: 

• Experience delivering HV/EHV primary substation designs with strong technical knowledge of substation layouts, equipment selection, HV cable design and Australian and/or New Zealand design standards  

• Experience with, or exposure to, software platforms such as CYMCAP, CDEGs, Autodesk SBS, Inventor, Navisworks, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation would be advantageous.  

• Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills across functions and disciplines 

• A people-first approach with a passion for coaching, mentoring and developing others 

• The ability to balance technical delivery, stakeholder engagement and team leadership
