About this role

A problem isn’t truly solved until it’s solved for all. That’s why Googlers build products that help create opportunities for everyone, whether down the street or across the globe. As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you’ll use your technical expertise to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish. You’ll work with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. You're equally comfortable explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical tradeoffs in product development with engineers.

Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage end-to-end delivery of physical fiber paths, including Leased Waves and Dark Fiber, which form global layer-1 mesh for Google's production network. Manage delivery, testing, cross-connection, and disconnection of network assets like bulk fiber, Infrastructure, Internet Protocol Out-Of-Band, and colocation space/power.
  • Be the primary point of contact for telecommunication vendors regarding delivery timelines, tracking order progress, negotiating commitments, and escalating delivery blockers. Assess external vendor performance through regular audits, surveys, and Quarterly Business Reviews to maintain high On-Time Delivery rates.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders like Network Acquisition, Delivery, and Data teams to execute infrastructure deployments. Oversee and perform fiber characterization and acceptance testings to ensure fiber paths meet Google Standards.
  • Create, track, and update project data across internal systems and databases.
  • Identify and investigate operational discrepancies and drive rectification efforts on a case-by-case basis.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in program management and networking domain like telecommunications delivery, fiber optics, leased wave deployments, and dark fiber, etc.
  • Experience managing and delivering network infrastructure projects, including coordinating with external telecom vendors, mitigating deployment risks, and driving process optimization.
  • Ability to travel to operational sites (such as data centers, colocation hubs, and vendor locations) to support testing, audits, or critical deployments, as required.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working at a large-scale technology company managing and delivering a high volume of network build projects.
  • Direct experience dealing with fiber permitting, construction, splicing, testing, and remediation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of cloud networks, environments and interconnectivity requirements within carrier hotels (cables, routing protocols, and physical interfaces).
  • Deep understanding of fiber optics, leased wave deployments, and dark fiber.
  • Proven success in directly managing fiber and telecom vendors to drive the On-Time Delivery (OTD) of critical fiber assets.
