Wastewater Operations and Asset Advisor

About this role

This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week

The remuneration range for this role is $86,230 to $121,736 (including KiwiSaver) depending on skills and experience

The opportunity

This role sits at the heart of wastewater treatment operations, connecting Tiaki Wai with our treatment plant services contractor and internal teams. You’ll monitor plant performance, support asset renewals and capital investment, manage compliance and operational risks, and help drive continuous improvement across Wellington’s wastewater treatment plants.

You will:

  • Monitor treatment plant performance and escalate operational, environmental and asset risks.

  • Oversee contractor performance and compliance with consent and contractual requirements.

  • Coordinate asset renewals and smaller reactive projects, including capital expenditure and forecasting.

  • Lead compliance reporting, investigations and responses to requests for clarification.

  • Build strong relationships with contractors, regulators and internal teams to improve wastewater outcomes.

About you

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • A diploma in wastewater, chemical, process, environmental or asset management, or equivalent relevant on-the-job learning.

  • Experience overseeing and reporting on the operations and maintenance of water or wastewater treatment infrastructure.

  • Strong relationship management skills, with experience influencing performance and working collaboratively across multiple teams.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear reporting and engage confidently with a range of stakeholders.

  • The ability to work effectively under pressure, manage changing priorities and maintain a practical, solutions-focused approach
