What you’ll do and what success looks like in this role

As a member of Group Legal team and the dedicated lawyer for Welab Bank, you will report to the Bank’s Chief Compliance Officer as well as Group General Counsel. You will play a key role in supporting the Bank’s business with pragmatic and forward-looking legal advice.

• Handle a broad spectrum of legal matters, including emerging technology applications, customer-facing documentation, marketing and media arrangements (digital and traditional), distribution partnerships, and third-party agreements (e.g. sponsorships, agency, consultancy, and service agreements)
• Provide clear, commercially sound advice on legal and regulatory matters across the Bank’s operations
• Proactively identify, monitor, and manage legal risks, including supporting the design and implementation of legal and compliance frameworks, policies, procedures, and monitoring tools
• Coordinate and manage external counsel, including oversight of legal spend and performance
• Deliver practical training and guidance to internal stakeholders on legal and compliance topics

What is required and what we’re looking for

• At least 7 years’ post-qualification experience, including in-house exposure and experience with a reputable law firm
• Qualified in Hong Kong, the UK, Australia, or Singapore, with strong commercial legal experience
• Professional proficiency in both Chinese and English
• Solid experience in IT, banking and financial services-related contracts, data privacy, and retail wealth management matters
• Proven experience handling regulatory enquiries and investigations
• Litigation or dispute resolution experience is a plus, but not essential
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance business objectives and risk considerations
• Self-driven and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, with strong prioritization skills
• A collaborative team player who is resourceful and solutions-oriented
• Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with a strong sense of ownership and responsiveness
