Washington Gas is seeking a strategic and operational leader to oversee Meter Services and Field Asset Systems while helping shape the future of metering technology across our organization.

In this role, you will lead critical meter operations, asset management programs, and field support functions while serving as the company's subject matter expert for Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and smart meter technology. You will play a key role in driving operational excellence, ensuring regulatory compliance, and leading the implementation of smart meter initiatives across Washington Gas throughout the DMV region and SEMCO Energy in Michigan.

This is an exciting opportunity for a leader who enjoys combining technical expertise, operational leadership, analytics, and large-scale project execution to improve how utility services are delivered to our customers.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead meter service field operations, including meter reading, meter installation audits, maintenance activities, and customer measurement programs.

  • Oversee meter shop operations, inventory management, meter proving, testing, repair activities, volume correctors, and adherence to measurement standards.

  • Serve as the operational SME for SAP Device Management and related system processes.

  • Manage field service support activities, including customer appointment coordination, data management, and SAP Business Process Exception (BPEM) resolution.

  • Lead processes and systems supporting field assets, including equipment tracking, work management documentation, device maintenance, and field data collection.

  • Ensure compliance with meter-related controls, SOX requirements, company Key Control Areas (KCAs), and applicable regulatory standards.

  • Identify opportunities to improve procedures, technology solutions, business processes, and operational performance.

  • Provide leadership for safety, training, budgeting, workforce planning, operational execution, documentation management, and personnel development.

  • Serve as the company expert for AMI and smart meter technologies.

  • Spearhead the implementation of AMI and smart meter programs across Washington Gas and SEMCO Energy.

  • Support customer issue resolution related to metering services and field asset systems.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, vendors, contractors, and regulatory agencies including the PSC and SCC.

  • Support procurement, ordering, testing, and lifecycle management of metering devices and related field assets.

  • Manage projects and initiatives that improve operational efficiency, data quality, customer experience, and asset reliability.

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant utility, engineering, operations, metering, asset management, or related industry experience.

  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience.

  • Natural gas utility experience preferred.

  • Experience with meter operations, field asset management, SAP Device Management, or related utility systems.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret operational data and identify improvement opportunities.

  • Demonstrated project management experience, particularly with large-scale operational or technology initiatives.

  • Knowledge of AMI, smart meter technologies, meter asset management, or utility field operations preferred.

  • Working knowledge of DOT CFR 49 Part 192 preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams and stakeholders.

  • Strong organizational, leadership, and relationship-building capabilities.

We offer a competitive salary range of $123,800 - $180,125, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, retirement savings plans, paid time off, professional development opportunities, and programs that support your well-being and career growth.
