Job Description

Main Purpose of Role

The Electrical & Instrumentation Apprentice will support the growth and operational delivery of instrumentation services, calibration activities, and on‑site testing within SGS GAS (Gas Analysis Services). This role combines hands‑on technical training with structured apprenticeship phases, enabling the apprentice to develop the skills and knowledge required to qualify as a Level 6 Electrical Instrumentation craftsperson.

The role involves carrying out gas analysis and analyser calibrations for a wide customer base, ensuring compliance with regulatory and user‑specific standards.

The apprentice will assist with the installation, commissioning, calibration, and maintenance of measurement and control systems across industrial environments, while gaining experience in gas testing, sample retrieval, reporting, and customer support.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Learning & On‑Site Work

  • Complete all on‑the‑job and off‑the‑job training phases (Phases 1–7).

    • Electricity/Electronics
    • Installation Techniques
    • Automatic Control
    • Hazardous Environments
    • Measurement & Instrumentation Systems
    • Final Control Elements
    • Communications Systems
    • Related Theory
  • Apply classroom learning to practical industrial scenarios.
  • Ensure full compliance with the Company’s Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct, and act in accordance with SGS Ireland’s Equality & Diversity Policy and ensure others do so.
