About this role

About FirstPrinciples

FirstPrinciples is building AI to accelerate scientific discovery. Our core product is the Theo Platform, a research environment built to help researchers iterate faster, validate rigorously, and reach verified results they can trust.

We're a fast-growing, remote-first team of builders, researchers, engineers, and thinkers working across Canada, the US, the UK, and expanding globally. What brings us together is a shared curiosity about how the universe works, and a belief that we can build systems that help us explore it more effectively.

We spend our time working on questions that don't have clear answers, like how to design AI that can reason through scientific problems, and how the scientific process as a whole might evolve. This is work that sits somewhere between creativity and rigorous thinking, and often requires comfort with ambiguity and iteration. If you're someone who enjoys tackling big, abstract problems and exploring ideas that don't yet have a defined path forward, you'll likely find the work here interesting.

Why This Role Exists:

FirstPrinciples is looking for a driven and experienced product manager to join our team. In this role, you will play a key, cross-functional role helping shape the vision, development, and growth of our products.

Building at the cutting-edge of AI and science, this role is a rare, rewarding opportunity to build for the unique and complex requirements of the spaces we operate in. The ideal candidate has a proven track record in product management who can combine strategic thinking with enough technical depth to guide our efforts and bring complex ideas to life.

What You’ll Do:

  • Define, refine, and shape product capabilities across the Theo Platform products in alignment with FirstPrinciples’ mission.

  • Plan, prioritize, and drive product development while balancing technical constraints, product requirements, and strategic objectives.

  • Work closely with FirstPrinciples leadership to ensure the product vision addresses research challenges and supports scientific advancement.

  • Work closely with technical & engineering teams to translate high-level research concepts into actionable technical specifications and user stories, managing the day-to-day backlog.

  • Continuously improve and iterate your product portfolio, deeply owning the vision, strategy, and roadmap of your products.

  • Maintain consistent communication across the organization to ensure transparency and alignment.

  • Uphold operational excellence through documentation, cross-team alignment, and strong execution rituals.

Who You Are:

  • 5+ years experience shipping products as a Product Manager at a technology company.

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field; ensuring you can comfortably debate technical tradeoffs.

  • Product Management: Deep understanding of modern product management craft and theory, as well as practical experience applying it.

  • Organizational & Planning Skills: Demonstrated ability to plan product roadmaps, prioritize features, and manage releases.

  • Technical Aptitude: Familiarity with software development processes, best practices, AI/ML concepts, and data infrastructure.

  • Collaboration & Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, and comfort working in a fast-paced startup environment with a remote-first team.

  • Bonus: Experience with foundational or frontier AI products, in physics and/or fundamental science topics, and in an early-stage startup environment.

What You’ll Get:

  • The opportunity to work on foundational problems at the intersection of AI and physics

  • A high-trust, low-bureaucracy environment with real ownership

  • Remote-first work with flexibility in how you structure your day

  • Exposure to cutting-edge ideas across AI, scientific discovery, and emerging technologies

  • A culture that values curiosity, depth of thinking, and first-principles reasoning

  • The chance to contribute to work aimed at advancing fundamental science
