SDE II, Amazon Privacy Engineering

Amazon Privacy Engineering builds the automated compliance tooling, policy enforcement systems, and regulatory evidence collection systems that ensure regulatory compliance and protect customer data across Stores, Ads, Devices, Prime Video and more.

Doubling down on our recent innovations in the Advertising and Stores businesses, the team is designing the next-generation of applications with a singular mission: make privacy compliance automatic, provable, unified and scalable across every system across Amazon, in every jurisdiction where Amazon operates.

This is a Tier-1, high-throughput, low-latency system that will drive policy enforcement for hundreds, then thousands of services, processing billions of transactions worldwide. We are refining previous implementations and creating extensible solutions for the rapidly evolving regulatory landscape.

The tech stack is Java on native AWS, and the startup ethos is real: small team, greenfield architecture, outsized impact, and high leadership visibility.


You're looking for an opportunity to ideate, design, build, and deliver technology solutions at an incedible scale. You look at problems holistically and thrive on cutting through complexity to deliver simple, maintainable solutions. You want to work on real problems that demand creative thinking and deep understanding of the problem space. You challenge yourself and others to constantly find better approaches. This role requires you to switch nimbly between strategic and tactical work to achieve technical, business, and customer trust goals. You'll own and drive initiatives through the entire stack, from the policy enforcement APIs that teams integrate with, down to the data pipelines that produce compliance evidence.

Basic Qualifications

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
