Senior Health and Safety Advisor

The opportunity

As our Senior Health and Safety Advisor (locally known as Health & Safety Manager), you’ll play a key role in supporting EY Oceania’s health, safety and risk management approach by helping the firm meet its regulatory obligations, while enabling our people and business to deliver quality services to our clients.

Working within our Risk Management function, you will help oversee, maintain and continuously improve EY Oceania’s Safety Management System, contribute to governance reporting and assurance activities, and work closely with stakeholders across the firm to identify, assess and mitigate health and safety risks.

This is a hybrid position based in Naarm – Melbourne or Warrang – Sydney. Our roles can potentially be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours. Please speak with us about potential options.

Your key responsibilities

  • Support oversight and assurance activities to help ensure compliance with internal requirements and external obligations.
  • Manage the ongoing development, implementation and continual improvement of EY Oceania’s Safety Management System, including measuring its effectiveness.
  • Prepare governance reports, executive briefings and performance metrics, while also leading internal and external Health & Safety audits and reviews.
  • Partner with stakeholders to identify, assess and mitigate health and safety risks associated with client engagements and firm activities.
  • Oversee incident reporting, investigation and corrective action processes, including analysing incident trends and emerging risks to support strategic decision-making.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of risk management and compliance management principles.
  • A minimum of four years’ experience in risk or compliance, with professional services experience considered advantageous.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders.

Ideally, you’ll also have the skills and attributes below but don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes. We’re interested in your aptitude, attitude and willingness to learn.

  • A proactive, independent working style with strong customer service and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong business acumen, analytical capability and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to adapt to a rapidly changing business landscape and execute new ideas, improvements, technologies and products.
  • A commitment to leading by example and modelling behaviours that support a culture of safety, health and wellness.
