Job Description:

Job Title – Senior Manager - Model Controls Engineer

Join a team focused on strengthening the quality, reliability, and governance of analytical models and data-driven decisioning. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in model testing, data validation, and analytics to help ensure the integrity of critical financial crimes detection capabilities.

The Purpose of This Role

The Model Assurance Testing and Controls team is responsible for independently validating analytical models, testing model outputs, and strengthening controls that support Fidelity's Financial Crimes Compliance programs. As a Senior Manager, Model Controls Engineer, you will work closely with data scientists, engineers, compliance partners, and risk stakeholders to ensure model outputs are accurate, explainable, and consistently performing as expected. Your work will help strengthen governance, improve data quality, and support regulatory and audit readiness across the organization.

  • Executing independent model testing by running replicated model workflows and comparing results against production outputs

  • Investigating, documenting, and validating discrepancies between production and test environments

  • Evaluating model behavior and outputs to ensure consistency, reliability, and alignment with expected outcomes

  • Analyzing large datasets to identify data quality issues, anomalies, and potential data drift

  • Developing and enhancing automated testing, reconciliation, and monitoring capabilities

  • Supporting audit and regulatory activities through transparent, traceable, and well-documented validation processes

Technical /  Behavioral

  • You have strong proficiency in SQL for data extraction, transformation, analysis, reconciliation, and validation

  • You have strong Python programming skills for analytics, automation, testing, and data quality assessments

  • You are experienced in reviewing and evaluating code to understand model logic and data transformations

  • You can work effectively with large and complex datasets while maintaining attention to detail

  • You bring a structured approach to documentation, testing, and governance activities

  • You demonstrate the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams to solve complex problems

The Skills that are Good To Have for this role

  • You have experience with model validation, model risk management, or controls frameworks

  • You understand data governance, data quality management, and monitoring best practices

  • You have familiarity with financial crimes compliance, fraud detection, AML, or related analytical domains

  • You have experience identifying and assessing data drift and model performance concerns

  • You are comfortable supporting audit, risk, and regulatory review processes

  • You can effectively prioritize multiple initiatives in a dynamic environment

How Your Work Impacts the Organization

The Financial Crimes Detections & Analytics team within Fidelity's Enterprise Compliance organization is dedicated to protecting Fidelity and its clients from financial crimes. The team develops and enhances advanced analytics and machine learning models used to detect suspicious activity and support compliance obligations. By ensuring the quality, consistency, and reliability of these models, you help strengthen regulatory compliance, improve risk management practices, and increase confidence in critical business decisions. Your contributions directly support the effectiveness and integrity of Fidelity's financial crimes detection capabilities.

The Expertise We’re Looking For

  • 7+ years of experience in Data Science, Analytics, Data Engineering, Model Validation, Model Risk Management, Controls Engineering, or a related field

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Finance, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience

  • Strong experience with SQL and Python in analytical and testing environments

  • Experience working with large-scale datasets and performing data analysis, variance analysis, and reconciliation

  • Demonstrated experience in model testing, controls, validation, or governance activities

  • Experience supporting compliance, risk, audit, or regulatory initiatives is a plus
