Overview:

Summer Interns complete a 10 week internship centered around professional development, career growth and building the necessary skills to succeed.  Summer Interns participate in projects and department initiatives that accelerate career growth and play an important role in building the future of the Bank.  As an Intern, you will gain exposure to other departments through guest speakers and industry leaders and a built-in network with peers as well as priority consideration for full time opportunities throughout the Bank.

The Wealth Management Trust Services division is entrusted to holistically administer generations of family wealth within personal trusts on behalf of M&T Bank. They ensure that the management and administration of the Trust is done in accordance with our fiduciary obligations and pursuant to the terms of the governing instrument (i.e., a will or trust agreement). 

What will you do?

Interns will work with the Trust Administration team to understand how Wilmington Trust manages its most significant relationships.

This includes:

• An overview of the various systems and tools we utilize to administer trusts and relationships.
• Work on projects and assignments involving common trust administration and relationship management issues, including analyzing trust documents and preparing memos on the administrative and governing terms; evaluating distribution and termination requests; and preparing client books for existing and prospective clients.
• Meet with various stakeholders throughout Wilmington Trust and M&T Bank, including the Asset and Investment Management team, Relationship Managers, Trust Officers, Legal, Estate Administration, Unique Assets, Compliance and Risk, and more.
• Observe various committee meetings related to trust administration, including new business, terminations, distributions, unique assets, and modifications.
• Work and collaborate on a final capstone project to incorporate your knowledge by preparing a client book and presenting a pitch meeting, involving a discussion on the trust documents and available planning opportunities.

The M&T Bank/Wilmington Trust Summer Interns can participate in our weekly programming- these include our Executive Speaker Series, our Spotlight Series featuring guest speakers from key areas of the organization, and Career Development Workshops where they can work directly with Recruiters to brush up their resumes and interviewing skills.We also offer opportunities to collaborate with other interns through our Summer Challenges and Meet & Greets.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Complete duties and responsibilities of an entry-level professional nature specific to assigned area of the Bank.
• Ensure activities adhere to established internal policies and external regulations as applicable. 
• Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
• Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
• Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
• Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
• Complete other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
• Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $28.00 per hour. The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation. The range listed above encompasses all geographic locations. The pay rate specific to your location will fall within this range and is available from your recruiter.
