About the Role

An exciting opportunity is available for two Part-Time Veterinary Surgeons to join a growing RCVS-accredited 24-hour veterinary hospital, offering a varied and complex caseload alongside a highly supportive clinical team.

The role offers up to £60,000 FTE, dependent on experience, with flexible part-time contracts available. This is an excellent opportunity for a Veterinary Surgeon looking to access a more diverse caseload, develop clinical interests and work within a hospital environment offering advanced in-house care.

There are opportunities across consulting, surgery, hospital in-patient care and emergency cases, depending on the position selected.

About the Practice

The practice is a family-run, RCVS-accredited veterinary hospital and emergency service combining first-opinion care with out-of-hours and referral support.

The hospital provides support to multiple referring practices while maintaining a thriving first-opinion caseload. This creates an excellent balance between the variety of a busy general practice and the continuity needed to work cases up to a high clinical standard in-house.

The recently expanded hospital has significantly increased its working space and provides modern equipment to support high-quality patient care. The team has also expanded its diagnostic capabilities through access to CT imaging, helping improve continuity of care for patients and clients.

The clinical team includes vets and nurses with a diverse range of skills and several certificate holders across surgery, medicine and dentistry. Regular in-house CPD and clinical discussion groups provide further opportunities for learning and collaboration.

Responsibilities

Depending on the position, responsibilities may include:

• Provide high-quality first-opinion veterinary care across a varied caseload.

• Conduct 30-minute sick-pet consultations.

• Diagnose and manage routine and complex medical cases.

• Perform surgical procedures where appropriate to experience and role.

• Provide hospital in-patient care and patient monitoring.

• Manage emergency and critical care cases as part of the hospital team.

• Work collaboratively with experienced veterinary surgeons, nurses and certificate holders.

• Develop and manage areas of clinical interest.

• Support continuity of care by working cases up and accessing advanced in-house diagnostics.

• Participate in weekend hospital and ECC duties according to the agreed rota.

• Contribute to clinical discussions, CPD and ongoing service development.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a Veterinary Surgeon seeking a flexible part-time position within a progressive hospital environment.

Candidates should be confident managing a varied small animal caseload and interested in developing their clinical skills through exposure to more complex cases.

Experience or a particular interest in ophthalmology or dermatology would be advantageous, with scope to develop individual referral clinics in these areas.

The role would suit a vet who values clinical collaboration, ongoing learning and access to experienced colleagues and advanced facilities.

Part-Time Contract Options

Part-Time Vet – 21 Hours Per Week

• One weekday consulting shift: Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday

• 8.5-hour shift, either 9:00am–6:00pm or 11:00am–8:00pm

• Friday: 7.5 hours, working in surgery or hospital in-patients

• Friday shifts can vary between approximately 7:30am–3:30pm, 12:30pm–8:30pm or 9:00am–5:00pm

• 1 in 4 weekends, equivalent to approximately 5 hours per week

• Weekend duties involve ECC, sick pets, hospital shifts and emergency procedures

Part-Time Vet – 22 Hours Per Week, Consult Only

• Two consulting shifts from Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday

• 8.5-hour shifts, either 9:00am–6:00pm or 11:00am–8:00pm

• 1 in 4 weekends, equivalent to approximately 5 hours per week

• Weekend duties include ECC, sick pets, hospital shifts and emergency procedures
