About the Role

An exciting opportunity is available for a Veterinary Surgeon to join a stable, supportive and welcoming small animal practice in Castleford, West Yorkshire.

The role offers an excellent salary of up to £65,000 FTE, dependent on experience, with a 4-day working week, 1 in 3 Saturdays, and no OOH or Sundays. Part-time applications will also be considered.

About the Practice

The practice is an established standalone small animal practice with a longstanding and highly experienced team. The clinical team includes experienced veterinary surgeons with expertise across areas such as small animal surgery and oncology, alongside a newer graduate vet with interests in wildlife and exotics.

The nursing team consists of 5 experienced RVNs, with additional qualifications and expertise including anaesthesia and analgesia. The wider team provides strong clinical support, helping the working day run smoothly and allowing vets to focus on delivering excellent patient care.

The practice has a very low staff turnover and places significant emphasis on colleague wellbeing. Mental Health First Aiders are available on site, while the practice has also achieved recognition as an Autism-friendly clinic.

They are also a cat-friendly practice, with a loyal client base and a strong proportion of insured pets, allowing appropriate cases to remain in-house.

Located in Castleford, the practice offers convenient access to Leeds, Wakefield and York, combining excellent transport links with the attractions and countryside of West Yorkshire.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality veterinary care across a varied small animal caseload.

• Carry out consultations, diagnostics and surgical procedures appropriate to experience.

• Develop strong relationships with clients and provide compassionate, informative advice.

• Work collaboratively with experienced veterinary surgeons and RVNs.

• Discuss clinical cases, protocols and treatment options with colleagues.

• Contribute to a culture where ideas and professional opinions are encouraged.

• Support and mentor less experienced veterinary colleagues where appropriate.

• Continue developing clinical knowledge through CPD and further qualifications.

• Maintain high standards of patient welfare and clinical care.

• Participate in the 1 in 3 Saturday rota, including sole-charge responsibility during Saturday shifts.

• Work bank holidays on a shared rota basis.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a qualified Veterinary Surgeon with a genuine passion for delivering excellent patient and client care.

Experienced vets looking to progress their careers are particularly encouraged to apply. The practice is happy to support further study, certificates and professional development, while experienced clinicians may also have the opportunity to mentor and support less experienced colleagues.
