About the Role

An excellent opportunity is available for a Veterinary Surgeon to join an established and recently refurbished small animal practice in Leyland, Lancashire, where colleague wellbeing and sustainable working practices are genuine priorities.

Salary: Up to £70,000 FTE, depending on experience
Hours: 20–40 hours per week
Full-time: 40 hours across 4 days
Saturday rota: 1 in 5, 9:00am–1:00pm
Protected lunch: 1 hour paid
Sundays: None
Bank holidays: None
Out-of-hours: None

The practice has carefully designed its working day around its Veterinary Surgeons, with three hours of protected time each day for breaks, client calls, case follow-ups and administration. This helps clinicians stay on top of their workload and finish on time.

Both full-time and part-time applications are welcomed, with working patterns from 20 to 40 hours per week considered.

About the Practice

Established in 2016, the practice has grown into a stable and experienced small animal team and has recently undergone a major refurbishment.

The clinical team includes five Veterinary Surgeons, with three bringing more than 10 years of professional experience. They are supported by five experienced RVNs, including several nurses regularly undertaking Schedule 3 procedures.

The practice also benefits from visiting specialist support across a range of disciplines, including:

• Cardiology

• Orthopaedics

• Advanced soft tissue surgery

• Advanced imaging

• Exotic animal medicine

The varied caseload provides an excellent opportunity to broaden clinical experience while having access to experienced colleagues and visiting specialists when required.

The team operates within a supportive, inclusive and judgement-free environment, with regular social events and team-building activities helping maintain a strong sense of camaraderie.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality first-opinion veterinary care.

• Manage a varied small animal caseload, including opportunities to see exotic species.

• Conduct routine medical consultations and clinical examinations.

• Perform routine surgical procedures appropriate to experience.

• Work collaboratively with experienced Veterinary Surgeons and RVNs.

• Utilise visiting specialist support where appropriate.

• Build strong relationships with clients and provide clear clinical advice.

• Maintain accurate clinical records and appropriate case follow-up.

• Contribute to the continued development of the practice.

• Develop individual clinical interests through CPD and specialist support.

• Participate in the Saturday morning rota.

• Contribute positively to the supportive team culture.
