About this role

About Us
Abergeldie is a majority locally owned contractor with 30 years’ industry experience in Australia and New Zealand. We design and deliver projects in the Water, Bridges, Transport, Underground, Energy and Remediation industry sectors. Projects include dams, bridges, tunnels, water and wastewater treatment process facilities, rail infrastructure, mining infrastructure, electrical substations, marine works and pipeline rehabilitation: the complex infrastructure needed to build better communities.

About the Opportunity
We are looking for a Health & Safety Advisor to join our Queensland team, initially supporting our Stapylton Network Upgrade project. As Abergeldie continues to grow in Queensland, this role will also support health and safety outcomes across our broader portfolio of infrastructure projects.

The Stapylton Network Upgrade is delivering critical wastewater infrastructure upgrades for the City of Gold Coast, helping to support future growth in the region.

As part of the project team, you will play a key role in driving a positive safety culture across site operations and ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently and in line with project and legislative requirements.

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of project health and safety systems

  • Conducting site inspections, audits and workplace observations

  • Facilitating incident investigations and corrective actions

  • Assisting with risk assessments, SWMS reviews and safety planning activities

  • Providing advice and coaching to project teams, supervisors and subcontractors

  • Monitoring compliance with WHS legislation, project procedures and client requirements

  • Delivering safety inductions, toolbox talks and awareness initiatives

  • Contributing to reporting, safety metrics and project performance reviews

What You'll Bring to the Team

  • Previous experience in a Health & Safety Advisor role within civil construction, water/wastewater infrastructure or major projects

  • Sound knowledge of WHS legislation and industry best practice

  • Strong WH&S system management capability

  • Experience conducting safety inspections, audits and incident investigations

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships and positively influence stakeholders at all levels

  • A proactive and practical approach to safety management

  • Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritise

  • ICAM or TapRooT Investigator training highly regarded

  • Strong digital literacy and experience using workplace reporting systems

  • Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (minimum requirement)

  • Current C Class Driver's Licence and Construction Induction Card (White Card)
